Just out from Crossway and just arrived in my mail, I’m eager to read this new book by D. A. Carson, Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor: The Life and Reflections of Tom Carson. A few years ago Carson had a short piece on his father in the SBJT Forum that was a powerful reminder that faithfulness, not fame, is our standard.
If you’re looking for a devotional biography, look no further. Buy this little book and enjoy the reminder that all God’s people are ordinary people (even the famous ones).
Hey Jim:
Just today I posted on some of my own thoughts as well as an excerpt from this gem of a book. Highly recommended!

I’ve read almost half of the book and it is indeed excellent!
My copy arrived Monday afternoon and I finished it by Monday evening. Very encouraging.
It would be good for laymen to read, to understand (a bit) what it is like to be a pastor.
I’m very excited to get this book!
Jim,
I was at your lecture today at SBTS and I just wanted to stop in and tell you that I really appreciated what you had to say about the use of typology. This is actually something that my friends and I discuss often, being that I’m in agreement with what you presented today, and they would say that we can only take the OT texts that the NT interprets that way as typology. I anxiously await the audio of the lecture to be put up on SBTS’s site, and the manuscript up here. Sorry to hijack your comments, but I did want you to know I enjoyed and appreciated the lecture today.
